Building a better Colorado. Together.

At Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, we believe that our state is a better place to live, work, and play when every person has the opportunity and resources they need to thrive. No matter the color of our skin, the cultural traditions we follow, our sexual orientation, or the religion we subscribe to, we can all agree on what is important in life: safe neighborhoods in thriving communities, healthy and strong families, opportunities that help us all grow and succeed, and a bright future for our children.

We partner with people and strategically invest in nonprofits that share our commitment to a caring and vibrant Colorado. Since 1996, we have awarded more than $27.6 million to hundreds of Colorado organizations that provide basic public services and valuable programs to thousands of people and places across our state.*

We support nonprofit organizations that:

  • elevate the arts and cultural events because we love the way film, literature, performances, and community festivals inspire people to think and feel
  • strengthen and encourage diverse communities because they flourish when people trust and support one another
  • promote the health and wellbeing of families and children because strong communities begin with strong families
  • provide public broadcasting because it entertains, informs, and inspires thoughtful discussion

We strive to give much more than money. We invest in Colorado by collaborating with and learning from our grantees, local businesses, nonprofit leaders, and public supporters. We share resources, connect organizations working hard to achieve a similar mission, and educate Colorado on the great work of hundreds of nonprofits.

If you work for a Colorado nonprofit, we invite you to check out our Grants page to learn more about our grantmaking. If you’re a Coloradan, native or new, and are simply curious about our work, visit our Community Impact page to learn more about the organizations we partner with to make Colorado an even better place to call home.

We invite you to join us in this cause. Together, we can all help build a better Colorado.

*Please note that the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado is a program of the Gill Foundation and does not provide financial support to organizations that exclusively serve the state’s LGBT population. Support to Colorado’s LGBT organizations is provided by the Gill Foundation.

Welcome to the website for the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado

We’d like to update you on some important news.

In 2012, we announced we would take a break from all new Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado grantmaking to undergo a strategic reevaluation. As of December 2012, we are nearing the end of this reevaluation period and a focused branding evaluation.

Due to exciting changes in the fund’s grant program areas, the content available on this website is now outdated. We will be closing this website and incorporating Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado updates into the Gill Foundation’s website by April 2014.

Going forward, the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado will now encompass all previously-existing Colorado programs and grants of the Gill Foundation, as well as a new program area in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.* The foundation’s six Colorado program areas that will be known as Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado grants are:

Five previously existing and well-defined grant program areas of Gill Foundation:

  • Colorado safe and inclusive schools that prevent bullying and harassment
  • Colorado progressive civic engagement and communications grants
  • Colorado public broadcasting grants
  • Colorado HIV services
  • Colorado lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) services and advocacy

One new grant program area:

  • Colorado science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education

* Our new STEM strategy will be refined over the course of the next 18 months.

PLEASE NOTE: We will not be accepting any unsolicited letters of interest or grant applications.

We are excited for this next chapter with the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado and believe that we can have an even greater impact in building a better Colorado together. Please check the Gill Foundation’s website in late 2013 for any grantmaking updates:
