We envision a state that welcomes and includes all people regardless of their sexual orientation or gender expression. All of our work – whether it’s an event sponsorship or our participation in a local chamber of commerce – is aimed at creating an understanding that the fair and equal treatment of all people is good for Colorado and all of its residents.
So that our vision becomes a reality, we collaborate with a wide variety of nonprofits, civic organizations, government agencies, businesses, and individuals to ensure that equality becomes a shared value.
Our work toward this end takes on many forms:
- We provoke and engage people and organizations in conversations about equality and what it means. Sometimes these conversations are difficult ones because they make people question their own set of beliefs and life experiences.
- We provide toolkits, workshops, and our staff as resources to encourage organizations to include equality as part of their organizational values.
- We participate in local civic organizations around the state and bring diverse voices and points of view to the table on topics important to Colorado.
- We convene groups or individuals to discuss issues important to Colorado’s future. Because we understand the importance of dialogue, we make available meeting space in our Colorado Springs building to a wide variety of groups.
- Lastly, we provide financial resources in a variety of ways to hundreds of high-impact Colorado nonprofits in four programs areas: arts & culture, civic participation, healthy families, and public broadcasting. These nonprofits are on the front lines providing important services to our state’s population.
All of the nonprofits that we support understand the value of inclusion and promote issues of equality within the organization’s circle of influence. For this reason we require all grantees to have an inclusive organizational nondiscrimination policy.
Colorado is home to people of diverse backgrounds, all of whom place a value on quality of life. We believe that treating all people fairly and equally only enhances the Colorado experience for everyone who lives here.
